Mersin - Kız Kalesi
This fort on a small island a little distant from the shore is considered the symbol of the Eastern Mediterranean. As for the resort town of Kizkalesi, which includes the site of the ancient city of Korykos, it is noteworthy for its beaches, motels and campsites. The Korykos fort on the shore is right in front of Kizkalesi, which is another fort on a small island, 200 meters from the shore. Actually, Kizkalesi is two forts not one. Both forts were built during the early 12th century by Armenian kings of the Rubeniyan dynasty, to defend the city of Korykos. These two forts are connected, and part of this connection is nowadays above the water. In Narlikuyu, which is located a little further on from Kizkalesi, on an inlet surrounded by fish restaurants, you can see a mosaic of the Three Graces on the pavement of a public bath from Roman times.
